Over time, our laptops will definitely feel sluggish. Usually, this is caused by several problems such as the number of viruses lodged in our laptops, the hard drive capacity is full, RAM that can no longer support many application processes, or it could be that the specs on our laptops are low, and others. However, there are several ways to speed up laptop performance and you must know it.
Especially on Windows 10 which is famous for its large size and is also very heavy for a small spec laptop.
If a problem like this has arisen, we should take action, to optimize our laptop performance again.
Because a good computer and has good performance are very helpful in our work, right?
How to Speed Up Laptop Performance
Usually, every laptop has components such as hardware or PC hardware that supports the performance of the laptop.
We recommend that you be smarter in keeping it so you don’t slow down and get exposed to dangerous viruses.
Or you can also use RAM which has the dual-channel capacity to lighten the load on the Windows OS. And you can also Replace HDD to SSD.
For more details, please see the recommendations for how to speed up laptop performance below.
1. Delete Junk Files (Recycle Bin)
First, you make sure that your laptop is clean from various viruses. Usually, the garbage that piles up for too long will cause our laptops to become slow and unable to run properly.
By default, the garbage that is deleted by deleting, on Windows OS, it will usually be stored in the trash, namely the Recycle Bin.
Now things like this have become trivial habits, which can have fatal consequences and result in decreased performance on our laptops.
Junk files will continue to accumulate and cause your laptop storage to quickly fill up and become claustrophobic.
To delete it you can right-click on the Recycle Bin icon then select Empty Recycle Bin.
Or you can also use the CCleaner application which can be used for free.

2. Uninstall unnecessary programs
Another way to improve laptop performance is to delete some unnecessary applications.
Because there are so many applications installed but they don’t really need to be used, they should be deleted rather than filling storage.
Here’s how to uninstall programs/applications on a laptop:
First, please open the Start menu > Control panel > Uninstall a program then select the application to be removed.
3. Increase RAM and Hard Drive Capacity
RAM usually only serves as temporary storage, of course, to improve the laptop’s performance. Because RAM will work for multitasking.
While the hard drive itself is hardware that is used as a storage area. Because the more hard disk space, the faster your laptop runs the program.
More RAM capacity will provide space on the CPU to process a large number of programs. In addition, large RAM can also ease the multitasking process.
4. Using the laptop as needed
When we use a laptop, of course, we have to know the limitations, for example, when we turn on the laptop to do work for hours without taking a break.
To maintain the durability and improve laptop performance, then only use your laptop as needed, or if you really do a lot of work.
Give it a moment to rest to turn it off so that all the performance in the laptop can run again optimally.
5. Install Anti Virus
Installing anti-virus can clean all kinds of viruses that are spread on the laptop so that it doesn’t become slow and can lighten the laptop’s work perfectly.
But when you want to install anti-virus, first choose an application that is suitable for your type of laptop. So that laptop performance can continue to run well.
6. Shut down the programs running at startup
The startup is a laptop program that starts when you turn it on.
Usually, when we do an automatic install, the startup will activate itself. In order not to interfere with laptop performance, you should set it first.
This is also one of the reasons why our laptops become slow and don’t run normally.
Because there are too many startups running, it will also cause our memory to run low and laptop to be slow.
On Windows 7
To turn off the startup running on the laptop, please click the Windows key + R > then type MSConfig > then select the Startup tab. And uncheck the program that will be disabled.
On Windows 10 and 8
For the Startup menu on Windows 10 and 8 is a little different, you just need to go to Task Manager and select the Startup tab. And please select the program you want to disable when you just turn on the laptop.

7. Enlarge Virtual Memory
Even though the role of Virtual Memory is not as big as RAM, increasing its capacity even if a little will still increase the performance of your laptop.
To set it you can go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Then select Advanced system settings.
Go to the Advanced tab, in the Display section select Settings
After that select, the Advanced tab again, then select Change on the Virtual Memory menu.
Uncheck Automatically control paging file dimension for all initiatives. Then select Custom size. In the initial size, fill with 4000 and the maximum size with 8000.
8. Turn off the use of visual effects
Windows appearance does look luxurious because there are lots of visual effects contained in it.
Now, to increase the performance of the laptop to keep it smooth, we can disable these visual effects.
Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System, then select Advanced system settings.
Select the Advanced tab then select Settings.
Then select Adjust for best performance then click Apply to apply it.
After that, the appearance of your laptop will change instantly, and some effects that were active become disabled. If you’ve used Windows XP, that’s more or less how it looks.
You can also choose Custom if you don’t want to turn off the visual effects entirely.
9. Use Disk Cleanup
Use disk cleanup to clean unnecessary files on each partition on your laptop hard drive. That way files that are not important can all be deleted.
To use it you can search press the Win + Q keys then search for the keyword “Disk Cleanup” and please select which drive you want to clean.
10. Use Disk Defragment
The point of Disk Defragment here is that it will rearrange the data on the fragmented drive. In addition, you can make routine maintenance so that your laptop storage remains healthy.
To use it, you can right-click on the drive you want to check, then select Properties > select the Tools tab > Then in the Defragment drive section click Optimize.
The length of this process will depend on the data on the drive.

11. Change HDD to SSD (OS only)
In 2019, it seems that the HDD is no longer used as storage for Windows OS on laptops or PCs. Because HDD performance is very slow when compared to the latest technology called SSD. Especially for Windows 10, where the operating system requires access speed to process all tasks quickly. This is regarded as the best way to speed up your laptop performance.
When you feel the laptop is slow, immediately replace the HDD inside to an SSD by using the DVD RW place as HDD storage later. So the SSD will be replaced with the HDD, then the HDD will be placed in the DVD RW column.
Moreover, the current use of DVD RW is less efficient considering that there are file transfer intermediaries such as wifi and flash drives which are considered faster and simpler.
For the current SSD price, it is cheap, starting from three thousand you can get an SSD with a capacity of 120 GB which is very sufficient if only for installing Windows OS. You must also know about HCM software.
Those are some tips that you can do to speed up laptop performance so that it returns smoothly. If you have other suggestions, please send your suggestions in the comments column.
